Moving to Forest Estates
Forest Estates is a charming community located in Silver Spring, MD. Bordered to the west by Georgia Avenue, to the south by Forest Glen Road, to the east by Sligo Creek Parkway, and to the north by Dennis Avenue, Forest Estates is nicely situated to suit an array of lifestyles. The homes in Forest Estates are mostly post-war brick cape cods and colonials, with many of the homes built between 1940 and 1969, though there are a number of residences that were built between 1970 and 1999. This well-established neighborhood is known for its attractive homes, active community, and access to excellent school system.
Since the homes in Forest Estates have been constructed over various decades, the homes in this neighborhood represent a wide range of time periods and styles. Residents report that there is a lot of economic diversity, lending to more modest homes on some streets and grander homes on others. Homes in this quiet suburban community typically sell for $300,000-$650,000 and feature three bedrooms, two baths, and sit atop average-sized lots. One quality that makes Forest Estates so attractive is its close proximity to a wide variety of activities and local hotspots. Located just outside the Beltway and within walking distance to the Forest Glen Metro Station, it is a breeze to commute into Washington, DC or amble about Downtown Silver Spring.
Though it is easy to travel outside of Forest Estates, there is also plenty to do within the neighborhood. For those with an affinity for the outdoors, there is plenty of parkland in Forest Estates, including General Getty Park and the nearby Wheaton Regional Park. Residents also have access to the Sligo Creek Trail and an abundance of tall trees and greenery. Forest Estates is also part of Montgomery County’s Green Streets Project, which seeks to help reduce stormwater pollution that drains into nearby streams. These small-scale stormwater practices help capture water from roadways and sidewalks during storms, and it helps to keep the neighborhood environmentally friendly and beautiful.

The Forest Estates Community Association is uniquely active and is responsible for organizing events like the Park Clean-Up, National Night Out, Halloween Parade, Fourth of July Parade, and Community Picnic. The Forest Estates Community Association also puts on a farmers market and community supported agriculture (CSA) program. The ever-popular Forest Estates Farmers Market offers a wide range of seasonal fruits and vegetables and is held in General Getty Park between 9am and noon from May to November. Residents who wish to get more involved can join the Forest Hills CSA, an entirely volunteer-run organization, to bring fresh, seasonal organic food to the community.
Residents of Forest Estates have the benefit of sending their children to the nationally-known Montgomery County public school system, which features the Downcounty Consortium (DCC) for high school students who wish to choose their academic area of study. The high schools included in the DCC are Montgomery Blair, Northwood, John F. Kennedy, and Wheaton.
